FILER - After two weekends at the College of Southern Idaho and two in Filer at the Twin Falls County Fairgrounds in Shouse Arena, the 6th District high school rodeo will finally get a week off to give both the animals and contestants a much needed break.

Rupert senior Jaylee Stimpson and Kimberly senior Derek Wadsworth remain at the top of the all-around standings as the two have done since the first weekend of action.

On the girls side, Stimpson ended the four week run with her strongest weekend picking up 79 points giving her a total of 238 points. Her efforts resulted in two wins in poles and a first and second in goats.

She also had a second and third place finish in breakaway and team roping with Cooper Champneys from Kimberly and a fifth in barrels.

Declo junior Hallee Hitt remained in second place with 169 points and freshman rookie, Talon Clark from Castleford moved into third place with 153.

Wadsworth added 42 points with a first in steer wrestling and saddle bronc. He also had a third in steer wrestling and tie down and a fifth in bulls.

Klancy Krenka from Castleford sits in second place with 142 points and Britton Bedke from Oakley has 91.

Six riders managed to stay aboard for the eight-second whistle in bull riding on Saturday afternoon.Burley senior, Michael Jarolimek turned in the best performance with a 65-point ride.

Dalton Petersen from Raft River and Minico rookie Logan Smith tied for second with 62, and Filer junior, Preston Stoddard was fourth with a score of 54.

In fifth place was Wadsworth with 52 and Tuff Huizar from Kimberly with 48.

Most people outside the rodeo world can’t imagine rodeo ever being called a team sport. However, those involved in rodeo will always refer to it as a team sport because the cowboys and cowgirls work so close with their four legged teammates for any success or failure they attain. They share the credit where it is due.

Team Hitt is a perfect example. There’s Hallee and her 15 year old mare, Mary Jane.

“Mary Jane is my barrel horse and has been my best friend since the fifth grade,” said Hitt.

She also rides Miss Piggy and Joey.

Being sure horses are always taken care of properly and fed to keep them strong, sharp, fit and ready to compete, Hitt acknowledges how much she appreciates her grandfather,

Klynn Bennett getting up every morning and feeding her horses so they are ready to go.

Hitt didn’t have one of her best overall weekends in Filer, but she and Mary Jane did have a win in barrels on Friday night with a time of 17.277 seconds.

She also added a third in poles and an eighth in goats. With her 52 event points, she sits second in the individual standings for barrels trailing only Kya Rinaldo from Castleford

and also is in second place in poles behind Stimpson with 48 points and sits fifth in goats. She admits breakaway seems to give her the most problems because “I just get more nervous and forget to breath.”

Hitt also competes in team roping with William Wells from Oakley.

Her best advice to the rookies: “Rodeo is such a mental game. Just be yourself and don’t let other people put pressure on you and let them try to get to you. There is always another rodeo.”

After the break, the 6th District moves into Rupert April 24-25.
